Jan Kaplický
Jan Kaplický was a Czech architect and designer, known for his innovative and futuristic architectural style. Born on April 22, 1937, in Prague, he became a prominent figure in the field of architecture, particularly after moving to London in the 1960s. Kaplický co-founded the design firm Future Systems, which gained recognition for its unique and avant-garde projects.
One of his most notable works is the Selfridges building in Birmingham, completed in 2003, which features a distinctive, curvy façade made of thousands of aluminum discs. Kaplický's designs often emphasized sustainability and the use of modern technology, making him a significant influence in contemporary architecture until his passing on January 14, 2009.
