Jamil Al-Amin
Jamil Al-Amin, formerly known as H. Rap Brown, is an African American civil rights activist and former leader of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Born on October 4, 1943, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he became known for his passionate speeches and advocacy for Black empowerment during the 1960s.
In 2000, Al-Amin was convicted of murder in connection with the shooting of two police officers in Atlanta, Georgia. He was sentenced to life in prison and has since become a controversial figure, with supporters arguing for his innocence and critics pointing to his past as a radical activist.
