Jamaican pound
The Jamaican pound was the currency used in Jamaica before it was replaced by the Jamaican dollar in 1969. The pound was subdivided into 20 shillings, and each shilling was further divided into 12 pence. The transition to the dollar aimed to simplify transactions and align with other Caribbean currencies.
The Jamaican dollar is now the official currency of Jamaica, symbolized as JMD. It is used for all transactions within the country and is issued by the Bank of Jamaica. The dollar is further divided into 100 cents, making it easier for everyday use and commerce.
