Jülich-Cleves War
The Jülich-Cleves War (1609-1614) was a conflict in the Holy Roman Empire over the succession of the Duchy of Jülich and Cleves. The war began when the last duke died without a male heir, leading to a dispute between various claimants, including the House of Orange and the House of Brandenburg.
The war involved several European powers, including Spain and France, who supported different sides. Ultimately, the conflict ended with the Treaty of Xanten in 1614, which resolved the succession issue and restored peace in the region, but it also highlighted the complexities of territorial disputes in Europe during that era.
