Italian President
The Italian President is the head of state of Italy, serving primarily a ceremonial role. Elected by the Italian Parliament for a seven-year term, the president represents national unity and ensures the constitution is upheld. The president also has the power to appoint the Prime Minister and dissolve Parliament.
While the position is largely symbolic, the president plays a crucial role in times of political crisis, helping to mediate between different parties. The current president, as of October 2023, is Sergio Mattarella, who has been in office since February 2015, promoting stability and democratic values in the country.
