Isidor Straus
Isidor Straus was a prominent American businessman and politician, best known as a co-owner of the famous department store chain, Macy's. Born on February 6, 1845, in Germany, he immigrated to the United States with his family in 1854. Straus played a significant role in expanding Macy's into a leading retail establishment in New York City.
In addition to his business success, Straus was also involved in public service. He served as a U.S. Congressman from 1894 to 1895. Tragically, he lost his life in the Titanic disaster in 1912, alongside his wife, Ida Straus, highlighting their enduring love and commitment to each other.
