Isabelle de Charrière
Isabelle de Charrière (1740-1805) was a Dutch-Swiss writer known for her novels, letters, and essays. Born in Thun, Switzerland, she spent much of her life in Haarlem, Netherlands. Charrière was a prominent figure in the Enlightenment, engaging with themes of gender, society, and individualism in her works.
Her most famous novel, Eugénie, explores the struggles of a young woman seeking independence in a restrictive society.
