Iraqi Ba'ath Party
The Iraqi Ba'ath Party is a political party founded in the 1940s that promotes Arab nationalism and socialism. It gained significant power in Iraq after a coup in 1968, leading to the establishment of a one-party state. The party's ideology emphasizes unity among Arab nations and the importance of social justice.
Under the leadership of Saddam Hussein, who became president in 1979, the Ba'ath Party implemented various policies aimed at modernizing Iraq. However, the party's rule was marked by authoritarianism, human rights abuses, and conflicts, including the Iran-Iraq War and the Gulf War. The party was dissolved after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.
