International Refugee Organization
The International Refugee Organization (IRO) was established in 1946 to address the needs of millions of displaced persons after World War II. Its primary goal was to provide assistance, resettlement, and protection for refugees, helping them rebuild their lives in new countries. The IRO worked closely with various governments and organizations to facilitate the safe relocation of individuals and families.
In 1951, the IRO was dissolved, and its functions were transferred to the newly formed United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The UNHCR continues the mission of protecting refugees and ensuring their rights, focusing on long-term solutions for displaced populations worldwide.
