International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union
The International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU) was a prominent labor union in the United States, founded in 1900. It represented workers in the women's garment industry, advocating for better wages, working conditions, and labor rights. The union played a significant role in organizing strikes and negotiations, helping to improve the lives of many garment workers.
Throughout its history, the ILGWU was involved in various social and political movements, promoting issues such as women's rights and workers' rights. In 1995, the ILGWU merged with the Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees (UNITE) to form UNITE HERE, continuing its legacy of advocating for workers in the apparel industry.
