Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees
The Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees, commonly known as UNITE, was a labor union in the United States that represented workers in the textile, garment, and related industries. Founded in 1995, it aimed to improve working conditions, wages, and benefits for its members, advocating for their rights in a rapidly changing industrial landscape.
In 2004, UNITE merged with the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union (HERE) to form UNITE HERE. This new union continued the mission of supporting workers in various sectors, including hospitality and textiles, while promoting social justice and fair labor practices across the industries it represented.
