Inter-American Commission On Human Rights
The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) is an autonomous organ of the Organization of American States (OAS) established in 1959. Its primary role is to promote and protect human rights across the Americas by monitoring compliance with the American Convention on Human Rights and other regional human rights instruments. The IACHR investigates complaints, conducts on-site visits, and issues reports on human rights situations in member states.
The Commission consists of seven independent experts who serve in their personal capacity. It engages with governments, civil society, and international organizations to address human rights violations and promote awareness. The IACHR also provides recommendations and facilitates dialogue to improve human rights conditions in the region.
