Infante of Portugal
The term "Infante of Portugal" refers to a title given to the sons of the reigning monarch of Portugal. Historically, the title was used for royal princes who were not the direct heirs to the throne. Infantes played significant roles in the political and military affairs of the kingdom, often leading expeditions or serving as governors of provinces.
One of the most notable Infantes was Henry, Duke of Viseu, who was instrumental in the early stages of the Age of Discoveries. He sponsored numerous voyages along the African coast, contributing to Portugal's maritime exploration and expansion during the 15th century.
