Henry, Duke of Viseu
Henry, Duke of Viseu was a Portuguese nobleman born in 1394. He was the son of King John I of Portugal and Philippa of Lancaster. Henry is best known for his role in the early days of the Age of Discoveries, where he sponsored numerous explorations along the west coast of Africa. His efforts significantly contributed to the expansion of maritime knowledge and trade.
Henry was also known as Henry the Navigator, although he never actually navigated any ships himself. Instead, he established a school for navigation in Sagres, which attracted many skilled sailors and cartographers. His legacy is closely tied to the advancements in navigation and exploration during the 15th century.
