Indy Racing League
The Indy Racing League (IRL) was established in 1996 to promote open-wheel racing in the United States. It aimed to create a competitive environment for drivers and teams, focusing on the iconic Indianapolis 500. The league featured cars that were specifically designed for high-speed racing on oval tracks.
In 2008, the IRL merged with the Champ Car World Series, leading to the formation of the IndyCar Series. This merger helped unify the sport and increase its popularity, allowing for a broader range of events and a more diverse set of drivers and teams competing in the series.
