Indian one-horned rhinoceros
The Indian one-horned rhinoceros, also known as the Indian rhinoceros, is a large herbivorous mammal native to the Indian subcontinent. It is characterized by its single horn, which can grow up to 25 inches long. This species primarily inhabits grasslands and riverine forests, particularly in Kaziranga National Park and Manas National Park in Assam, India.
These rhinos are known for their thick, wrinkled skin that resembles armor and their large size, weighing up to 2,200 kilograms. The Indian one-horned rhinoceros is classified as vulnerable due to habitat loss and poaching for its horn, which is highly valued in some cultures. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect this unique species.
