Indian Feudalism
Indian Feudalism refers to a social and economic system that emerged in India during the medieval period, characterized by a hierarchy of land ownership and obligations. In this system, local rulers or zamindars held large estates and granted portions of land to peasants in exchange for agricultural produce and labor. This created a bond of loyalty and service between the landowners and the farmers.
The feudal structure was marked by a decentralized political system, where power was often fragmented among various regional leaders. Kings relied on these local lords for military support and governance, while the caste system influenced social relations and obligations within this framework.
