Indian Castes
The Indian caste system is a social hierarchy that has existed for centuries in India. It traditionally divides people into four main categories, known as varnas: Brahmins (priests and scholars), Kshatriyas (warriors and rulers), Vaishyas (traders and agriculturists), and Shudras (laborers and service providers). Each caste has specific roles and responsibilities, influencing social interactions and occupations.
Over time, the caste system has become more complex, leading to the emergence of numerous sub-castes or jatis. While the Indian Constitution prohibits caste-based discrimination, the system still affects social dynamics and access to resources in some areas. Efforts continue to promote equality and social justice across all castes.
