Increase Mather
Increase Mather (1639–1723) was a prominent New England Puritan minister, author, and scholar. He played a significant role in the early colonial history of Massachusetts and was a key figure in the Salem witch trials. Mather served as the president of Harvard College and was known for his writings on theology and history.
Mather was a strong advocate for the Puritan faith and sought to promote religious and moral values in the community. His works, including "Wonders of the Invisible World," defended the witch trials and aimed to explain the supernatural beliefs of his time. Mather's influence extended beyond his lifetime, shaping the religious landscape of early America.
