Idi Amin
Idi Amin was a military officer and politician who served as the President of Uganda from 1971 to 1979. He came to power after a coup that overthrew Milton Obote, the previous president. Amin's rule was marked by widespread human rights abuses, political repression, and economic decline. He was known for his erratic behavior and self-proclaimed titles, including "Conqueror of the British Empire."
During his presidency, Amin expelled many Asians from Uganda, leading to significant economic disruption. His regime was characterized by violence, with estimates of hundreds of thousands of deaths attributed to his government. Amin was eventually ousted by a coalition of Ugandan exiles and the Tanzanian military in 1979.
