IP ratings
IP ratings, or Ingress Protection ratings, are a system used to classify the degree of protection provided by electrical enclosures against solid objects and liquids. The rating consists of two digits: the first indicates protection against dust and solid particles, while the second indicates protection against water. For example, an IP67 rating means the device is completely dust-tight and can withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.
These ratings help consumers understand how well a product, such as a smartphone or outdoor light fixture, can resist environmental factors. Higher IP ratings generally indicate better protection, making it easier to choose devices suitable for specific conditions, like outdoor use or industrial environments.
