IEEE 1284
IEEE 1284 is a standard for parallel communication between computers and peripheral devices, such as printers. Introduced in 1994, it defines a bi-directional communication protocol that allows data to be sent and received simultaneously, improving the speed and efficiency of data transfer compared to earlier methods.
The standard includes various modes of operation, such as Compatibility Mode, Nibble Mode, and ECP Mode, each designed for different types of devices and data transfer needs. IEEE 1284 has been widely used in connecting printers and other devices, although its relevance has decreased with the rise of USB and wireless communication technologies.
