IC 1278
IC 1278 is a planetary nebula located in the constellation of Cygnus. It is approximately 2,500 light-years away from Earth and is known for its distinctive shape and bright colors, which are produced by the ionization of gas surrounding a dying star.
The nebula is formed from the outer layers of a star that has shed its material during the later stages of its life cycle. As the star evolves, it emits ultraviolet radiation that excites the surrounding gas, causing it to glow. IC 1278 is part of a larger group of celestial objects known as planetary nebulae.
