Hypoventilation
Hypoventilation is a condition where a person breathes at an abnormally low rate, leading to insufficient oxygen intake and inadequate removal of carbon dioxide from the body. This can result in increased levels of carbon dioxide in the blood, a state known as hypercapnia.
Common causes of hypoventilation include respiratory diseases, obesity, and certain medications that depress the respiratory system. Symptoms may include fatigue, confusion, and shortness of breath. Treatment often focuses on addressing the underlying cause and may involve the use of ventilators or other respiratory support methods.
