Hypogonadism
Hypogonadism is a medical condition characterized by the body's inability to produce sufficient amounts of testosterone in males or estrogen in females. This can lead to various symptoms, including reduced libido, fatigue, and decreased muscle mass. It can occur due to problems with the pituitary gland, which regulates hormone production, or issues with the testes in men and ovaries in women.
There are two main types of hypogonadism: primary and secondary. Primary hypogonadism originates from the testes or ovaries themselves, while secondary hypogonadism is caused by issues in the hypothalamus or pituitary gland. Treatment options may include hormone replacement therapy to help restore normal hormone levels and alleviate symptoms.
