Hypertrophic Scars
Hypertrophic scars are raised areas of skin that develop after an injury or surgery. They occur when the body produces too much collagen during the healing process, leading to thick, red, and often itchy scars. Unlike keloid scars, hypertrophic scars remain within the boundaries of the original wound and may improve over time.
These scars can form on any part of the body but are most common on areas that experience tension, such as the chest, shoulders, and back. Treatment options include silicone gel sheets, corticosteroid injections, and laser therapy, which can help reduce their appearance and discomfort.
