Hypersonic Glide Vehicle
A Hypersonic Glide Vehicle (HGV) is a type of advanced weapon that can travel at speeds greater than five times the speed of sound, or Mach 5. Unlike traditional ballistic missiles, which follow a predictable arc, HGVs glide through the atmosphere at lower altitudes, making them harder to detect and intercept. This capability allows them to reach their targets more quickly and with greater precision.
HGVs are often launched from a rocket before gliding towards their target. They can maneuver during flight, which adds to their unpredictability. Countries like Russia, China, and the United States are actively developing HGV technology to enhance their military capabilities.
