Hyaenidae
The family Hyaenidae, commonly known as hyenas, includes four extant species: the spotted hyena, brown hyena, striped hyena, and aardwolf. These carnivorous mammals are primarily found in Africa and parts of Asia. Hyenas are known for their unique social structures, often living in groups called clans, which can consist of up to 80 individuals.
Hyenas are characterized by their strong jaws and powerful teeth, allowing them to crush bones and consume a wide variety of prey. Despite their reputation as scavengers, they are skilled hunters and often hunt in packs. Their vocalizations, including the famous "laugh," are used for communication within the clan.
