Hunterston A Power Station
Hunterston A Power Station was a nuclear power facility located in North Ayrshire, Scotland. It began operations in 1965 and was one of the first commercial nuclear power stations in the UK. The station used Magnox reactor technology and contributed significantly to the country's electricity supply during its operational years.
The power station was officially decommissioned in 1990 after 25 years of service. Following its closure, the site underwent a lengthy decommissioning process, which involved the safe removal of nuclear materials and the dismantling of infrastructure. Hunterston A is part of the broader UK nuclear energy landscape, which includes other facilities like Hunterston B and Torness.
