Hungarian Workers' Party
The Hungarian Workers' Party (HWP) was a political party in Hungary, founded in 1948. It emerged from the merger of several leftist groups and was closely aligned with the Soviet Union. The party aimed to establish a socialist state in Hungary and played a significant role in the country's post-World War II political landscape.
In 1956, the HWP faced significant challenges during the Hungarian Revolution, which sought to reform the government and reduce Soviet influence. Following the revolution's suppression, the party was rebranded as the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party (HSWP) and continued to govern until the fall of communism in Hungary in 1989.
