Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party
The Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party (MSZMP) was the ruling political party in Hungary from 1956 until 1989. It was established as a Marxist-Leninist party and played a significant role in the country's governance during the era of state socialism. The party was a member of the Communist Party and aligned with the broader socialist movement in Eastern Europe.
In 1989, amid widespread political changes across the region, the MSZMP transformed into the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP) as part of a shift towards a multi-party democracy. This transition marked the end of one-party rule in Hungary and the beginning of a new political landscape, reflecting the broader collapse of communist regimes in Central and Eastern Europe.
