Humphead Wrasse
The Humphead Wrasse is a large, colorful fish found in coral reefs across the Indo-Pacific region. Known for its distinctive hump on its forehead, this species can grow up to 2.3 meters (7.5 feet) in length and weigh over 180 kilograms (400 pounds). It has a vibrant green and blue coloration, which helps it blend into its reef environment.
This fish plays a crucial role in maintaining the health of coral reefs by feeding on various invertebrates, including sea urchins and crown-of-thorns starfish. The Humphead Wrasse is also known for its long lifespan, often living for over 30 years. Unfortunately, it is currently classified as endangered due to overfishing and habitat loss.
