Hu Yaobang
Hu Yaobang was a prominent Chinese politician and reformist leader of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Born on February 20, 1915, he played a significant role in the party's leadership during the 1980s, advocating for political and economic reforms. His tenure as General Secretary of the CCP from 1982 to 1987 was marked by efforts to address corruption and promote greater openness within the party.
Hu's sudden resignation in 1987, due to internal party pressure, sparked widespread protests among students and intellectuals. His death in April 1989 became a catalyst for the Tiananmen Square protests, as many mourned his commitment to reform and democratic ideals.
