Howard Thurman
Howard Thurman was an influential African American theologian, author, and civil rights leader born on November 18, 1899, in Daytona Beach, Florida. He played a significant role in the African American spiritual movement and was known for his emphasis on nonviolent resistance and the importance of inner spiritual life. Thurman co-founded the Church for the Fellowship of All Peoples in San Francisco, which was one of the first racially integrated congregations in the United States.
Thurman was also a mentor to prominent figures in the Civil Rights Movement, including Martin Luther King Jr.. His writings, such as "Jesus and the Disinherited," explored themes of love, justice, and the human experience, influencing many activists and spiritual leaders.
