House of Councillors
The House of Councillors is the upper house of the National Diet of Japan, which is the country's legislative body. It consists of 245 members who serve six-year terms, with half of the seats up for election every three years. The House plays a crucial role in reviewing and approving legislation, as well as overseeing the government.
Members of the House of Councillors are elected through a combination of single-member districts and proportional representation. This structure allows for a diverse range of political parties and viewpoints to be represented, contributing to the democratic process in Japan. The House works alongside the House of Representatives, the lower house, to create and amend laws.
