Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia
Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia (HAP) is a type of lung infection that occurs in patients during their stay in a hospital. It typically develops 48 hours or more after admission and is often caused by bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics. Patients with weakened immune systems or those on ventilators are at higher risk.
Symptoms of HAP may include cough, fever, and difficulty breathing. Diagnosis usually involves chest X-rays and sputum tests. Treatment often requires antibiotics, and prevention strategies include proper hygiene practices and minimizing the use of ventilators when possible.
