Hong Kong National Security Law
The Hong Kong National Security Law was enacted by the Chinese government on June 30, 2020. It aims to prevent and punish acts of secession, subversion, terrorism, and collusion with foreign forces in Hong Kong. The law grants authorities broad powers to enforce security measures and has raised concerns about the erosion of civil liberties in the region.
Under this law, certain activities, such as protests and expressions of dissent, can be classified as criminal offenses. The legislation has led to the arrest of numerous activists and has significantly impacted the political landscape in Hong Kong, drawing international criticism and calls for greater autonomy.
