Homunculus Nebula
The Homunculus Nebula is a small, bright nebula located around the massive star Eta Carinae in the constellation Carina. It was formed during a massive outburst of Eta Carinae in the 19th century, which expelled gas and dust into space. The nebula has a distinctive shape resembling a human figure, which is how it got its name, meaning "little man" in Latin.
This nebula is notable for its complex structure and the presence of two lobes, which are thought to be the result of the star's powerful stellar winds. The Homunculus Nebula is also a site of ongoing research, as it provides insights into the life cycles of massive stars and the processes of stellar evolution.
