History of Luxembourg
The history of Luxembourg dates back to the Roman era when it was part of the Roman Empire. In the 10th century, Count Siegfried acquired a rocky outcrop known as Lucilinburhuc, which later became the foundation of the city of Luxembourg. Over the centuries, the region changed hands among various powers, including the Duchy of Burgundy and the Habsburgs.
In 1815, following the Congress of Vienna, Luxembourg was established as a Grand Duchy. It maintained a unique position as a neutral state throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Today, Luxembourg is known for its strong economy and as a founding member of the European Union.
