Hissène Habré
Hissène Habré was the President of Chad from 1982 to 1990. He came to power after a coup and ruled with an authoritarian regime, marked by human rights abuses and political repression. His government was involved in numerous conflicts, particularly against rebel groups and ethnic minorities.
After being ousted in 1990, Habré lived in exile in Senegal for over two decades. In 2016, he was convicted of crimes against humanity, including torture and murder, by a special court in Senegal. His trial was significant as it was one of the first instances of an African leader being prosecuted for human rights violations in another African country.
