Hippodamia is a figure from Greek mythology, known primarily as the daughter of King Oenomaus of Pisa. She is famous for her role in the myth surrounding the chariot races that determined her fate. Her father, who was cursed to die if he lost a race, challenged her suitors to compete against him, leading to many deaths.
Eventually, Pelops, a hero and the son of Tantalus, fell in love with Hippodamia and sought to win her hand. With the help of Poseidon, he managed to defeat Oenomaus in a chariot race, securing his marriage to Hippodamia and ending her father's reign of terror.
