Hinkley Point A
Hinkley Point A was the first nuclear power station built in the United Kingdom, located in Somerset. It began operations in 1965 and was designed to generate electricity using magnox reactor technology. The plant played a significant role in the UK's energy production during its operational years.
The station was officially decommissioned in 2000 after 35 years of service. Following its closure, the site underwent a lengthy dismantling process, which included the removal of radioactive materials and the safe disposal of waste. Hinkley Point A is part of the larger Hinkley Point complex, which includes other nuclear facilities.
