Hillsborough disaster
The Hillsborough disaster occurred on April 15, 1989, during an FA Cup semi-final match between Liverpool FC and Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, England. A large number of fans were allowed to enter the stadium, leading to overcrowding in the standing area. This resulted in a crush that tragically claimed the lives of 96 people and injured over 700 others.
In the aftermath, investigations revealed failures in crowd control and emergency response. The disaster led to significant changes in stadium safety regulations across the UK, including the introduction of all-seater stadiums to enhance fan safety during events.
