Highly Sensitive Person
A Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) is someone who has a heightened sensitivity to sensory input, emotions, and environmental stimuli. This trait is part of a personality type identified by psychologist Elaine Aron, who estimates that about 15-20% of the population may be HSPs. They often process information more deeply and may feel overwhelmed by loud noises, bright lights, or strong emotions.
HSPs tend to be more empathetic and aware of the feelings of others, which can make them excellent listeners and friends. However, their sensitivity can also lead to feelings of anxiety or overstimulation in busy or chaotic environments. Understanding this trait can help HSPs navigate their experiences more effectively.
