High-Altitude Training
High-altitude training involves exercising at elevations typically above 2,400 meters (about 7,874 feet). At these heights, the air contains less oxygen, which forces the body to adapt by producing more red blood cells. This adaptation can enhance athletic performance when returning to lower altitudes.
Athletes, especially in endurance sports like marathon running and cycling, often use high-altitude training to improve their stamina and efficiency. Many training camps are located in mountainous regions, allowing athletes to benefit from the physiological changes that occur during this type of training.
