Herpes Simplex
Herpes Simplex is a viral infection caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV), which has two main types: HSV-1 and HSV-2. HSV-1 typically causes oral herpes, leading to cold sores around the mouth, while HSV-2 is primarily associated with genital herpes. The virus is highly contagious and can be transmitted through direct contact with an infected person, even when symptoms are not present.
Once infected, the virus remains in the body for life, often lying dormant in nerve cells. Outbreaks can occur due to triggers like stress, illness, or sun exposure. While there is no cure, antiviral medications can help manage symptoms and reduce the frequency of outbreaks.
