Heraia
The Heraia was an ancient Greek festival held in honor of the goddess Hera. It took place every four years at Olympia, coinciding with the more famous Olympic Games. The festival featured athletic competitions exclusively for women, celebrating their strength and abilities in a male-dominated society.
Participants in the Heraia competed in various events, including foot races and possibly other athletic contests. The winners were awarded olive wreaths, symbolizing victory and honor. The Heraia not only highlighted women's athleticism but also served as a religious celebration, fostering community and devotion to Hera.
