Henrique de Portugal
Henrique de Portugal, also known as Henry the Navigator, was a Portuguese prince born in 1394. He played a crucial role in the early days of the Age of Discoveries by sponsoring numerous explorations along the west coast of Africa. His efforts helped to expand European knowledge of the African continent and its resources.
Although he never personally embarked on voyages, Henrique established a school of navigation in Sagres, where he gathered experts to improve navigational techniques and ship design. His contributions laid the groundwork for future explorers, including Vasco da Gama and Ferdinand Magellan, significantly impacting global trade and exploration.
