Henderson Island
Henderson Island is a remote volcanic island located in the South Pacific Ocean, part of the Pitcairn Islands group. It covers an area of about 37 square kilometers and is known for its unique biodiversity, including many endemic species of plants and animals. The island is uninhabited, and its natural environment has remained largely untouched by human activity.
Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988, Henderson Island is recognized for its significant ecological value. The island's rugged terrain and diverse ecosystems provide a habitat for various bird species, including the Henderson Island rail, which is flightless. Its isolation has helped preserve its unique flora and fauna.
