Hedwig of Silesia
Hedwig of Silesia was a medieval noblewoman born around 1174, known for her piety and charitable works. She was the daughter of Bolesław I the Tall, the Duke of Silesia, and married Henry I the Bearded, the Duke of Silesia, in 1186. Together, they had several children and were influential in promoting Christianity in the region.
After her husband's death in 1238, Hedwig dedicated her life to religious service and founded the Cistercian monastery in Trzebnica. She became known for her deep faith and compassion, and was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 1267, celebrated for her devotion to the poor and the sick.
